Description

Bound Angle Pose (Baddha Konasana, also called Butterfly Pose) opens the hips by deeply stretching the inner thigh adductor muscles and groin. The soles of the feet are together and knees fall outward, so the hip external rotators are released, while the core and back muscles engage lightly to keep an upright spine. A seated pose with the soles of the feet pressed together and knees dropped to the sides, forming a diamond shape with the legs. It is commonly used in warm-up sequences or as a hip-opening posture in seated series. Classified within hip-opening poses, it often follows forward bends or precedes deeper seated stretches. Known as baddha konasana in Sanskrit, it is also referred to as butterfly or cobbler’s pose in English.
