Description

Headstand (Sirsasana) inverts the body and requires strong engagement of the shoulders, arms, and core to stabilize the balance upside down. The pose strengthens the upper body and deep core muscles while decompressing the spine; the legs stay active (with quads and glutes engaged) to maintain a straight vertical alignment, and the inversion provides gentle traction through the neck and spine when performed with proper support. Headstand, use variations for different arm placements. An inversion balancing on the head with the body extended vertically upward. Frequently used as a peak pose or part of advanced sequences to develop strength, balance, and focus. Classified within the inversion family and often preceded by preparatory poses that build shoulder and core stability. Known as sirsasana in Sanskrit, it is a foundational pose in many yoga traditions.
