The forearms on the ground intensify the stretch in the inner thighs and gently work the shoulders in an isometric hold. A low lunge with the forearms or hands on the ground inside the front foot, creating a deep hip opening position. Commonly used in warm-up sequences or as a preparatory pose for deeper hip openers and backbends. It belongs to the hip-opening family and is practiced on both sides to maintain balance. Known also as utthana pristhasana in Sanskrit, it is sometimes called macari in certain traditions.
