Description
Lizard Pose deeply stretches the hip flexors and groin of the back leg while engaging the core and glutes to stabilize the pelvis in the deep lunge. The forearms on the ground intensify the stretch in the inner thighs and gently work the shoulders in an isometric hold. A low lunge with the forearms or hands on the ground inside the front foot, creating a deep hip opening position. Commonly used in warm-up sequences or as a preparatory pose for deeper hip openers and backbends. It belongs to the hip-opening family and is practiced on both sides to maintain balance. Known also as utthana pristhasana in Sanskrit, it is sometimes called macari in certain traditions.
