Description

Marichi’s Pose (Marichyasana) involves one knee drawn in and the other leg extended, with a forward fold around the bent knee. It requires core engagement and a long spine, stretching the hamstring of the straight leg and opening the hip and outer thigh of the bent leg, while gently twisting and massaging the spine and abdominal organs. See also matsyendrasana and Revolved marichyasana C. A seated twist where one leg is extended and the other is bent with the foot placed near the opposite thigh, creating a spiral rotation of the torso. Commonly included in seated series or as a preparatory pose for deeper twists, it aids spinal mobility. This pose is part of the twisting family and is practiced on both sides to maintain balance. It is named after the sage Marichi in Sanskrit tradition.
