Description
Supine Twist (Supta Matsyendrasana) gently releases the spine and lower back by allowing the knees to fall to one side. This pose stretches the glutes and outer hip of the top leg and relaxes the paraspinal muscles, while the shoulders remain grounded to open the chest and encourage a spinal rotation with minimal muscular effort. Supine twist, revolved reclining pose. A reclined spinal twist where the torso rotates while the legs extend to one side, creating a gentle twist in the abdomen and spine. Commonly used as a counterpose or relaxation posture in sequences to release tension after backbends or seated forward bends. Part of the supine twist family, it is practiced bilaterally to balance the spine. Known as jathara parivartanasana or supta matsyendrasana in Sanskrit.
