poses and pose data
Overview
The YFlows Pose Library is designed specifically for sequence building rather than serving as a comprehensive encyclopedia of yoga poses. The poses are not meant to be representative of all of the yoga poses or a definitive list, but as a grouping to used for building sequences. This practical approach allows for flexible sequence creation while maintaining consistency across different traditions and teaching styles.

Understanding Poses and Common Names
Core Concept
In YFlows, poses are organized around a single Pose with multiple Common Names - the most recognizable English names used to identify poses in sequences. Multiple variations and alternative names can be associated with each Common Name, allowing for rich sequence building while maintaining grouping around the core asana.
Common Names
There are four types of commons names: Acronyms, Sanskrit, English and Spanish. There are multiple common names for each pose.
Caveats
- No "Pose" or "Posture" or "Asana" or "Yoga" in the names of the poses in the library.
- Emoji Common Names are great: ⭐, 🪷, 🧘 - they are just another type of acronym
- Apologies for the Sanksrit to English Alphabet Transliteration errors, giving grace for extra or missing 'h' or 't' characters.
- Poses are grouped by Icons
Pose Images and the Use of AI
YFlows users can upload their own images to the pose library. There is an approval process for new images. They need to be approved by site staff.
Reminder! YFlows uses AI to generate images for poses. The AI is trained on the pose library and the images are generated using the pose library data. The AI is not perfect, but it is a helpful tool to have.
Pose Cues
Pose Cues are a way to add additional information to a pose. They are not required, but they can be helpful. There are "Cue Types" (Anatomical, Physiological, Dharma, etc.) associated with each cue type. Users can add their own cues to the pose library and the other users can up/down vote them for utility.
Contributing to the Library
If you have a pose that you want to add to the library, please reach out to the site staff. We are always looking for new poses to add to the library.
We don't want to open up the pose library to the general public, at the moment it is a curated list.
