Description
Half Splits (Ardha Hanumanasana) is a hamstring-focused stretch done from a kneeling lunge position, where the front leg is extended forward with the heel on the ground. The hamstrings and calf of the front leg experience a deep stretch, while the hips remain aligned over the back knee. The practitioner’s core and lower back muscles engage to keep the spine long and flat over the front leg, protecting the lumbar area as the hamstrings lengthen. A forward-facing pose with one leg extended straight and the other bent, creating a long stretch along the hamstrings. Commonly used as a preparatory or counterpose in sequences involving deep hamstring stretches or hip openers, often following lunges or low squats. Part of the seated and forward bend family, practiced on both left and right sides to maintain balance. Known as ardha hanumanasana in Sanskrit, linking it to the full splits pose.
