Description

Full Splits (Hanumanasana) is an extreme pose that requires near-maximal flexibility in the legs. The front leg’s hamstrings and calf are intensely stretched as that leg extends forward, and the back leg’s hip flexors and quadriceps are equally lengthened as it reaches straight back. To hold the split, the inner thigh (adductor) muscles and core engage subtly to keep the hips squared and balanced, preventing collapse and maintaining an upright posture over the pelvis. A seated front split position with one leg extended forward and the other extended backward in a straight line. Commonly used as a deep hip opener and peak pose in flexibility-focused sequences. It has left and right side variations and is often preceded by preparatory lunges or hamstring stretches. Known as hanumanasana in Sanskrit, named after the monkey god Hanuman.
